Would you help me

fill

my father's boots?

...See the insert

My Father was my hero for many reasons. He was a World's Champion Cowboy. A great father and a real man of God! No! I could never fill my dad's boots; I will never be the man he was. But I will be bold to ask you if you'd give a generous gift to provide "Sponsorships" for my "Wanna-be" Cowboys and Cowgirls. This year, 2010, will be our 6th year of serving young people in four states and in five camps. And, of course, we cannot do what is needed without the partnership of ranch owners, staff, equipment, and friends like you who believe there is no better sacrifice of our time, talent or treasure than when we invest it in the lives of young folks.  We have never turned down a young guy or gal who wanted to come to camp for lack of funds and, that is because friends have invested in these young people. Some of the campers, of years past, are now serving as staff and counselors. It costs us between $12,000 to $15,000 a year to operate and staff mobile camps such as ours. Of this amount, some $4,000 to $7,000 (depending on the need) is used as sponsorships for needy campers. This coming year will be no exception. Your help is needed! The cost to each camper is $350 a week.  In the past, we have tried to call attention to the need through fundraisers. Rich Zandstra rode his bike across America to ask for help. Then, 17 people rode the Santa Fe Trail with me to ask for help and more recently we used Cowboy Pancake Breakfasts to ask for help. This year I am asking you to help me fill my father's ("Nevada Steve") boot with "loot."

Let Me Suggest Some Ways You Can Help

(1) Pray earnestly about what you can do help. Your help is needed.
(2) I will be ministering in at least 20 churches or schools between now and June 1st. My Dad's Boot will be on display and available to receive your gift. Hope to see you there (See my revised itinerary on the WWW.CowboyLee.com. Web Site.).
(3) Challenge your Church, School, Youth Group, Civic Club or Business Location to get an old "Cowboy Boot" and place it in a conspicious place with a sign asking them to "Fill the Boot with Loot for Cowboy Camp." Their loose change or generous gift will be a big help; collect it and send to our BDTLB Office.
(4) You can go on line at WWW.CowboyLee.com and use "Pay Pal" to make a donation.
(5) When you get this e-mail, write your check and put it in an envelope with a piece of paper; clearly identifying it as a "Fill the Boot with Loot for Cowboy Camp Gift" and send it to our office. You may ask me if Cowboy Camps are worth all the time, talent and treasure invested. This note is like one of many we receive from campers and parents that come to our office.  "Dear Cowboy Lee,When I came to cowboy camp I did not know if there was a Heaven or if I was going to Heaven. But, when I left Cowboy Camp I know I'm going to heaven."Signed: "Your new Christian Cowboy."

Are you looking for a Bible Camp
...with a Cowboy Setting?
Does your idea of fun involve camping out for a week, rain or shine? Do you think you’d like to learn about the care and safe handling of horses, and how to ride them safely, as well? Does campfire cooking and learning about cowboy crafts and skills appeal to your sense of adventure? Want to learn how to throw knives or tomahawks or spin a rope, or crack a bullwhip? If the Cowboy Way is something you’d like to find out more about, then...

Cowboy Larry Gabbard, Program Director
Cowboy Lee's
Cowboy Adventure Camps

...are just what you’ve been looking for. Wannabe cowboys and cowgirls who sign on for a Cowboy Lee Camp will experience an exciting week packed full of cowboy lore and uplifting Bible study. From the time you wake up at sunrise, until you turn in at night, you’ll be on the move with a full schedule of activities. There are no boring times at these camps.

Your horse has to be fed before you get your breakfast. After chores, we gather at the flagpole for the “pledge and prayer.” The cowboy cook - "Cookie" - then has your morning vittles waiting, as everyone sits on the ground to eat cowboy style.
The rest of the day is given over to horsemanship training, serious Bible study that speaks practically and powerfully to the Christian Cowboy or Cowgirl, leather craft, trick roping, whip cracking, cowboy games and the “famous, wild bucking barrel” - a huge amount of fun for everybody.

After supper, there is usually time for some more riding or special activities. As the sun begins to set, all the buckeroos gather around for our Cowboy Church. At the end of the day, you’re tired and ready for some shuteye. You lay down on your bedroll, you listen to the last crackling sounds of the campfire that is dying out, along with the crickets and other sounds that come with the night. You’ll have no problem drifting off to sleep.

Please understand that your enrolment will be determined, in part, by the order the applications are received. After applications are accepted, each cowboy/cowgirl and parent or guardian will receive a program and activity schedule. Also guidelines will be given about what to bring.

The cost for each camp will be $350.00. This camp fee includes all activities including a trick rope (spinning) and a catch rope for each cowboy/cowgirl to use and take home, trophies for the “Sho-de-o” and leather craft. However, it does not include the cost for travel to or from the camp.

We anticipate that campers will be coming from near and far. It would be impossible to arrange travel from their homes. We will, however, make arrangements for them to be picked up and returned to the nearest bus, train or plane depot if requested.

I can hardly contain myself for anticipation of Cowboy Camp. We have a full staff that is “Root’en - Toot’en” ready to “Head’em-up and Move’em Out.” I will be in attendance at each camp to give individual instruction in the cowboy skills of Trick Roping and Bullwhip artistry.

My father, “Nevada Steve,” was a professional, championship rodeo cowboy and performer. He was one of the last of the “old time” cowboys.

I grew up in that environment and on the back of a horse. As a boy, together with my brother and sister, we shared the rodeo ring with my dad. What wonderful memories. Now, I’m in my second childhood and if, by the grace of God, I can lead some young person to drink of the “water of life” and if I can help some young person find enjoyment by learning to do some “Cowboy Trick Roping” then, I will feel that I have not lived my life in vain.

Lastly. Let me tell you about the Saturday Afternoon “Show-de-o.” It

will be one of the highlights of your camping experience. We will invite neighboring churches, parents, family, and friends to come and enjoy the show and “dinner on the ground” with a big pot of “Cowboy Stew” - and all the “fixins,” like my dad used to make! Then the “Buckaroo Boys and Girls” will show off their horsemanship skills with some intense competition, followed by the awarding of trophies given to the winners.

 COST: $350.00

Camp fee includes all meals, activities including spinning and catch ropes, trophies for the “Showdeo” and craft material.

We have no desire to exclude any boy or girl because of money. So here’s what we ask you do:

*Send in your application.
*Request our “Promotional Pack”.
*Share the material with family, friends and church telling them about the Cowboy Camp and... ask them for help and let us know what your need might be.

We do have a limited number of Camperships available.

Well, what do you say Pardner? Are you ready to saddle up and hit the Cowboy Trail with us? Don't take too long to make up your mind. The number of riders is limited, so contact us and let us know which Cowboy Camp date has captured your attention.

Now, Cowboy Friend, we can help each other get ready and make plans if you will
please call our office at:  1-616-785-3618 or call on the camp phone, 1-616-822-4822 or e-mail me at: CowboyLee@CowboyLee.com Or, better yet, get an Application/Enrollment Form and mail it in...right away. Have a friend? Send them one too!
